On April 5, 1992, our family's life was blown away by the "Winds Of The West" in the
form of Riders In The Sky.
It had become a family
tradition during the fall and winter of 1991 for my Grandson Jamie, then 2, to curl up on his Grampa Al's lap and watch the Saturday morning TV show "Riders In The Sky". When Al noticed in the newspaper
that the "Riders In The Sky" were going to perform at a local theater in April, we of
course bought tickets. We had planned on going and having an enjoyable time
being entertained by these TV stars. We had NOT planned on adopting them as a
part of our family!!!!! But that is exactly what has happened!
When Woody Paul waved into my
video camera after the show and said "Hi Jamie! Hi Jamie! Riders In The Sky love
you, Jamie" he had little idea of the love that he really was implanting in our hearts!
Al and I had both grown up with Cowboys. Roy, Gene, Hoppy......all of the then
popular cowboy stars...and I had grown up very deeply bonded to Roy in
particular. When this new Cowboy, who was dressed extremely similarly to Roy,
waved into my video camera he 'Triggered' old memories and loves that had
been dormant for years.
10 years later, I am ever so grateful to these then three and now four Cowboys!
They have given our family a wonderful bond. We've traveled and had many
wonderful vacations planned around their shows. We've met and love many
other fans along the trail. The "Riders In The Sky Cyberpals" are all true blessing
in our lives.
Today, on the tenth anniversary of our meeting the Riders, our family is
celebrating! We are going out to dinner and treating it as a real family
anniversary, because it IS one. Jamie was two. Jessie was not even born yet.
....... I didn't know how much I had missed Western Music in my life.
We thank you Ranger Doug, Too Slim, Woody Paul and Joey, for filling our
lives with thousands of hours of music and happiness. You are a true blessing in our lives..
and the lives of many other Saddlepals and Cyberpals
THANK YOU!
