Albany, Oregon - July 20th

Monteith River Park

by Tiffany

We left home at seven in the morning on the 20th, to drive down to Albany Oregon to see the guys. Both my brother and I had stayed up really late on our computers and were more or less half asleep for the first part of the drive. We took a different route this time. Normally we go via Colfax, through the eastern Washington badlands, and then towards the Tri-Cities. This time we went through Lewiston, Walla-Walla, and then caught the interstate at Umatilla. The reason for the change was my dad wanted to check out some antique stores, but half way there, realized it was too early and they would still be closed. Oh well.

Along the way we saw 30 state license plates and two provinces. My only question is, are there any semi-trucks in Oklahoma? It seemed like every one of them out here had an Oklahoma tag. The drive is about eight hours, mostly through the Columbia River Gorge, and that's really pretty this time of year, and a great view of Mount Hood.

We got to Albany about four, found our hotel, checked in, and I changed into my new shirt that Bobbie had just sent me. Bubba and I went to check out the place where the concert was gonna be, and its a really good thing we did because the place was packed! Outdoor concert stage, pretty typical out here, but very little room left to set up. Bubba found a spot and had me hold it while he went back and got the chairs, so I wouldn't have to walk in the heat. (I'm temperature sensitive) When he got back, he realized that if we moved the car to go and get Rem, who was back at the hotel, we wouldn't ever find a parking place again. So he called Rem, who took a cab to get to the show. I checked out the mercantile. While waiting for the show to start, I visited with a couple for Salem. It was their first concert, but had heard the guys on the radio before. Then, about 20 minutes before the show, I headed down into the blanket only area to find a place close in to the stage. I managed about what would have been second row in a theater, on the Slim side of the stage.

We had to go through the mentioning of the sponsors, it was a totally free show. And some were awarded, so that took about ten minutes, then they introduced the guys.

Ok now notes from the show itself. Before Sioux City Sue, Woody asked if there were any Gene Autry fans, and of course there were. Slim asked if there were any gene pool fans, which got him some strange looks from the guys. :-)

Lets see, Hoop-Dee-Doo had a new ending line from Joey, something about snow and rain may come. I'll have to watch it one more time to get the whole thing. The Toy Story Two movie, and their new album will be out Aug. 29th. I know I can't wait to get them!

During the clarinet polka Slim started quacking. Doug went Phist Yah! And then Slim kept quacking, but it fit because it was the University of Oregon polka! (the mascot is a duck)

The winning question for a can of Spam came for a little girl about four years old. She asked them if they lived in the castle of Spam. Slim really gave it to her because she was so cute, and she was!

I felt sorry for Doug during rope tricks, he was caught in the middle of Woody and Too Jaws arguing. I will say this much, Too Jaws has some pretty good jokes. Woody roped his calf twice, once by mistake, I think he let the loop drop and then stepped in it while walking to his mike. He jumped through the loop once, but then lost his grip and the rope flew a couple of feet. And the bonus was great, before he did the cowboy wedding band, he danced around the stage a bit. He missed the first time with the loop, and then started dancing. But he made it the second time.

When they did Payday, Woody and Joey raced on the brief instrumental they have, and Woody won. :-) And Doug managed to crack Slim up during you are my sunshine. Oh, and there was one lighter there, I forgot my flashlight in my med. kit.

After the show, Bubba and I waited until the crowd died down. I got to talk with Doug a little, asked about his kids, and told him how I was doing in school. He gave me a "high five" when I told him my grades. They signed all the autographs, and then got up to do pictures. I told Slim I wouldn't see them again until September, and he said it really wasn't that long, and he's right, but it still seems like forever.

Nothing can beat a cowboy concert. I have a couple other shows coming up, but they're not Riders. But they'll help keep my busy until Puyallup this fall. And that'll be four shows total! Yay!!!!!!!!
