Riders in the Sky
Show #3893, Wichita, Kansas, Jan. 22, 1999 Attended by Nancy and Jeff
Wichita, Kansas SHOW # 3893
Jeff and I left home at 2:30 for Wichita and arrived there at 6:05. We
made
really good time. We bought our general admission tickets and started
looking for the rest rooms. Woody was walking down the hall so I said,
"Hey, Woody". He said, "Hi, Nanc - Were the other guys out there when you
came in?" We said, "No, we didn't see them". (I think that was a first
because the others are always looking for Woody - course, if we had met up
with RD and Slim they would probably say, "Have you seen Woody?") Woody
escorted us to the rest rooms and said he'd see us later. Sigh!!
Billy had the merc set up so I went by and talked to him and bought the
NEW
Saddle Pals songbook. It is great and has pictures of all their children
except Woody's two oldest.
The show started at 8:30 with a local opening act - Stu Stewart and two
members of the Home Rangers. The group has an album out and our RITS do
an
intro on one song. I didn't get it so don't know what it sounds like.
The
show was sponsored by radio station, KFDI in Wichita. Johnny Western, who
did Palindrome with RITS on their last album, was also there.
RITS opened with Texas (changed to KANSAS) Plains. Jeff and I were front
table, center stage. I was standing up when they came on stage - RD's
eyes
get real big, and he gets this great big wonderful smile, and take a step
back - like to say "they're here!!" I sat down and waved at Joey and he
mouthed the words, Hi, Nancy. (Sigh)
Songs they did:
How the Yodel was Born
Wahhoo
Tumbling Tumbleweeds
Palindrome WITH Johnny Western (sigh!)
Cool Water with Johnny
Farr Away Stomp
La Maleguena, the disfunctional love song
Sioux City Sue - hair is blue, eyes are red (senior citizen with
a hangover)
Phantom of the Chuckwagon
Hoop de Doo
Night Herding Song
Rawhide/Bowling and survey of trail drivers and bowlers
Cowboy Camp Meeting
Arms of My Love (RD said this was getting a lot of air play on
KFDI)
Fastest Accordion in the West - then they did a new routine
because Joey said any fool can do it! So they traded
instruments (Doug, fiddle; Woody, accordion; Slim, guitar,
and Joey, bass. Woody and Slim also traded HATS. Then they
broke into Rocky Top).
Then came the QUESTIONS.
1. What does Too Slim feed his legs? Tragic Rogaine spill - watch that
viagra bottle. Slim said he felt like a chia cowboy.
2. The boxers or briefs? Depends
3. If Monica Lyenski joined your band, what instrument would she play?
Depends on your definition of instrument!
4. Who irons Ranger Doug's hat? Monica L.
5. Would you sing Happy Birthday to my husband? He will be 40 on
Groundhog Day. They broke into Happy Birthday dear groundhog and gave him
the 8-track.
They did the requests all at the same time ending with Surfin" USA.
Other
songs:
Ghost Riders in the Sky
Cattle Call
Texas Sand - Joey
Christmas Goose - with his goose gun
Cherokee
Rope Tricks - with the NEW 2 Jaws, back from the Betty Ford clinic. His
teeth kept falling out so they broke into song - I Fall to Pieces. All of
this time, Woody is TRYING to do his rope act.
They finished the show with:
When Pay Day Rolls Around
Happy Trails
Encore: Looney Tunes and You Are My Sunshine.
We talked to the guys and had them autograph the new book. RD pointed out
that Liza looks like Grace. I gave Woody the pictures I took of him with
Paul in Tightwad and Bobbie's e-mail. He was elated. Got a kiss from
Joey,
2 hugs from RD, and a hug from Slim, the proud new Papa!! He said Baby
and
Bert were going fine. I told them we would see them in Ottawa. They were
pleased! |
