And Tiffany...in Madras, Oregon July 25, 1998
Photos here
Madras Oregon July 25,
We left the house around 8am and hit the road south to Oregon, it
was about an eight hour drive and we got to the fair ground about 20
minutes before the first show started. Out here in the "wild" west, they
don't presell tickets, we just sit on the grass, so I was able to sneak in
down near the front just before the show started. It was in the sun and
about 95 degrees in the shade, which is where my Dad and little brother
sat. The songs they sang were:
Texas plains, I ride an old paint, Ghost Riders in the Sky, Autumn
on the Trail, La Malaguena, Arms of my Love (Doug sang), Cool water,
That's how the yodel was born, Reincarnation (dedicated to Woody), Don't
fence me in, Pecos Bill, Hoop-Dee-Doo, Trail Tip Song, You are my
Sunshine, Cowboy Camp Meetin', Surfin' USA, Streets of Laredo, Farr Away
Stomp, Idaho, Cherokee, Wah-Hoo, Amber Eyes, Blue Shadows on the trail,
When Payday rolls around, Happy Trails, Along the Navajo trail, Texas
Sand, Rawhide (with bowling lyrics) Sioux City Sue, Night Riding Song, One
more Ride.
What a surprise to see Joey! Last time I had looked at his tour
schedule it said he wasn't gonna be here! I wore my shirt and I moved
partway through the show so my pictures would turn out better. Slim saw me
and said "nice shirt" while he was singing. They did two shows and we just
barely made it in time for them. I talked with the guys for a little bit
between the shows, gave everyone their various letters and packages, and I
gave Doug the book. He is such a sweetheart, he flipped through it right
there and said "Oh, wow" is such a soft, sweet tone that it got Joey's
attention. And I have to agree, Joey does give the best hugs. I had on my
Cyberpal button so Joey said "I'll give you a Cyberpal hug and then he can
take the picture."
And I had security called on me AGAIN! They did requests and I, of
course, yelled Surfin USA. Doug said, "Security, we have a 60s flashback."
And the look on his face when Slim said "Get down Ranger Doug" was just
priceless! I tried to get a picture, but I was laughing way too hard. In
the middle of the concert, a car alarm went off. They all turned around,
then Slim asked what key was it in, so they all started playing with the
car alarm! The only down side to the show was someone STOLE Woody's rope.
Doug broke a string, so he had to get his other guitar from the
Ambassador, so they decided to do rope tricks. Woody couldn't find his
rope, so he left the stage, so Slim and Joey said they could do an
accordian/bass duet. Slim did a Cowboy poem and when they had everyone
back on the stage, he commented that someone must have seen Woody do the
tricks before.
I'll catch you all on down the trail,
