And Tiffany...in Corvallis, Oregon July29, 1998
Photos here
This was the last concert of the week and the guys did it the
Cowboy Way, but the fair people left a little to be desired. I did have a
front row seat, but it was way off on the end. You'll be able to see what
I mean with the pics.
Songs in no particular order:
Hoop-Dee-Doo, That's Amori, The duck polka, Ghost Riders in the
Sky, Don't fence me in, Back in the saddle again, I ride an old paint,
Tumbling Tumbleweeds, That's how the yodel was born, Mr. Sincere, Happy
Trails, Farr Away Stomp, La Malaguena, Riding the winds of the west,
Cattle Call, You are my sunshine, Wah-Hoo, Palindrome, One more Ride,
Surfin' USA, Skyball Paint, Blue shadows on the trail, cool water, Pecos
Bill, Texas Plains, The salting of the slug, Along the Navajo trail,
Yellow rose of Texas, You're wearin' out your welcome...Matt, Rawhide
(with bowling lyrics), The phantom of the chuckwagon, Sioux City Sue,
Night Riding Song, Autumn on the Trail, Cowboy Camp Meetin', He walks with
the wild and the lonely, Looney tunes theme, Back up and Push (with Bobbie
Bowlin singing)
The guys were in rare form tonight. The weather cooled off so I
think that might have had something to do with it. I actually had to have
my coat on for both shows and lost feeling in my hands during
intermission. I don't know what they temp was but downright chilly is
good. Woody had to put on a light jacket when he came out to do the
autographs.
Woody Paul Cyrus made an appearance and I;m really glad he did
because Rem and Bubba haven't seen it live and that's something you just
have to see live. And he got Doug and Slim to start moving to make the
"big money". After Woody was done moving and singing, he jumped off the
stage, over the small fence (about belt level for the cowboys) and ran out
into the crowd to shake hand with people. Then he ran back, climbed back
over the fence and jumped back up onto the stage.
Doug and Slim seem to be seeing who can make the other forget the
most words to the most songs because they got each other several times
tonight. For example, during You are my sunshine, Doug did the "Only
Once?" bit, Slim started laughing and lost his place and said "Yeah, but
it's more that most men get." Which set Doug off and made him lose his
place.
And they have a new Palindrome. After "That lady's leaving. So Ida, adios"
Doug says "Say isn't that Danny Devito in the back? Would you like to
invite him to join us?" Slim replied, "Flee to me remote elf."
Slim and Doug managed to get messed up in the middle of it. After Slim did
his palindrome about cod, Doug said "Wow! Oh wait, that's your line." Slim
looked at him and said "Huh?" That made Doug start laughing and the skit
went from there.
My favorite part of the show was the intermission. You can
probably guess why, it's when I got a chance to talk to the guys, get
hugs, and pics. Woody was the first one we met up with. I told him I
wasn't going to see them again until September in Puyallup and I got a
short, personal serenade from him! "I'll see you in September." Doug was
next and when he was me, he smiled and said "You;re back." Another man
standing there asked about me being a fan and Doug said, "She's a
Cyberpal!" I got a HUGE hug from him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. My
little brother was taking the pics this time, and Rem wasn't fast enought
to get a pic of it, so I'll just have to try it again. But Doug stood up
really straight, his eyes got wide and he smiled the biggest smile I have
ever seen! Joey was next and, when I asked him if he was going to be out
here in September he said he wasn't! I'm planning to add his name to the
shirt and he asked me to send him a picture of it. And I got two huge bear
hugs from him. I think one was for September. Slim was the last one I saw.
He asked me how it was going and if I was going to be at the next concert,
in Tennosee! I told him no but I would see him in September. I got a big
hug from him and he told me to take care of myself.
What a great way to end a tour of three Riders in the Sky concerts.
Just as a side note we drove 14,13 miles and about 30 hours for this. My
Dad is the one who made the whole trip possible.
I'll catch you all on down the trail,
Tiff
