Show #3960

The long awaited, much anticipated Cyberpal Newsletter is on the web. Yes buckaroos and buckerettes, here is the tale you've all been waiting for, a tale of Cyberpals who gathered together for the first annual Cyberpal Gathering at Bear Creek Farms. So don't leave your computers, it wouldn't be the Cowboy Way.

My trip to BCF started at 5:15am on Saturday, my Dad drove me up to the airport and put me on the plane. To make a really long story short, there were about three hours of delays, my bags got lost so I didn't have anything but what I was wearing the whole time, and none of us are ever flying TWA again. And, a note to everyone who was there, I still don't have my bags. We all gathered together on Sunday and made our posters. Monday was the big day however....

The first item on our Cyberpal agenda was lunch with the guys. Well, minus Woody who had driven in and was asleep. There were three tables. Slim sat next to me during lunch. The others at our table were Linda, her husband Danny, and Jackie. At the table with Joey were dj, Amy, Lisa and Darrell. At the table with Doug were Donna N., Jill, Bobbie, Al, Jamie, Jess, and Janet. We talked about everything under the sun, including my lost luggage. Slim told me a story about an airline that lost his bag and he had to go onto stage with his shorts on under his chaps. And you will never guess what the surprise the guys had for us was. Specialized, never to be released to the public Riders in the Sky mousepads that said Bear Creek Farms Cyberpal Gathering '99. We had them autographed and Slim said he would have been disappointed if we hadn't brought them. We gave each of the guys a Cyberpal shirt and a gathering button. And we made up a poster that said, " Everything I need to know, I learned from Riders in the Sky."

They left to go to the Southwind to get ready for the show, and we went to pick up our stuff. The first concert was so much fun. We had the first two rows. I sat between dj and Darrell for both shows. I'll just go ahead and combine the songs from both the shows. The ones with stars next to them is the ones they did twice.

As I said the Cyberpals were in the first two rows and Doug actually introduced us before he introduced the Riders. We were all pretty loud and dj asked Doug if we were too loud and he said no, we weren't loud enough! That was the wrong thing to say, but I'll talk about that in a minute. The Joey fan club was there and we kept yelling "Joey! Joey! Joey!" which I think he really liked. We managed to stop Woody clod during Sioux City Sue. On the line, " I asked her if she loved me, she said heck no I don't" we had talked about it before the show and we all yelled "Indeed we do!" and that stopped him cold. After the intermission, we all held up our state signs and didn't put them down until the guys noticed them. Then, during the questions we held up posters with a Riders based Burma shave poem on them.

Cyberpals are true blue
We say the Cowboy Way on cue
Riders make us swoon
We're hot for every tune
We may appear screechy
Because we think you're peachy
So if we shout too loudly
It's only because we proudly,
Have so much love for you.

and Slim read the poem to the audience. The winning questions were
1. What does armadillo taste like?
2. What is an 8-track tape? (asked by Jessy)

Doug did a dedication on Desert Serenade but dj hadn't said a word. :) After the show, the Cyberpals made our way to meet up with the guys for pictures and hugs. They autographed our mousepads. I gave Doug a kiss on the cheek and got a kiss from Joey as well as huge hugs from all of them. I got my usual pics with them and then we all posed for a group picture. I was the one who got Doug over to it, so I'm standing right next to him.

The guys didn't join us for dinner, so we spent most of the time, at least where I was sitting, talking about the Riders and Riders Radio Theater. Then after some of the Cyberpal had left, I glanced towards the door and there was Woody. So he came over and sat down between dj and me.

I just thought of one more thing about the first show, during Wah-Hoo, Slim changed the lyrics to mention the Cyberpals. "Hey I like this show a rodeo, I like the Cyberpals too. I like to...yodel" Ok, back to lunch, sorry for bouncing around like this, Slim showed us baby pictures. George is so cute. dj, Jackie and I went to find the guys for lunch. They were out by the bus. Joey went right to dj, Doug to Jackie, and Slim to me. Joey said how great it was that I had made it out.

After dinner, Jackie tried to give me a fencing lesson. There I was in my jumper, borrowed shoes, glove, mask and working on my thrust when I heard a very familiar voice. I asked Jackie if it was who I thought it was, and it was Doug. He stayed and watched for a minute before going on his walk. When dj, Linda, and I were walking back from dinner, we saw Slim wearing his Cyberpal shirt and carrying a bag of golf clubs.

Ok, on to the second concert. They came out and did Texas Plains then Doug introduced the Cyberpal and asked how many states we had. We said about seven and two countries. Woody asked how many counties. Now, remember, Doug said we weren't loud enough during the first concert. So you can probably guess what we did. Lisa was sounding a little hoarse after the shows and I know I had a sore throat.

The first thing that really comes to mind is when they did Palindrome. I don't know if it was because we were all laughing so hard or not, but it got messed up. Doug had to say " Who's that waving at you?" three times before Slim was able to answer. The first two times he said wow and huh? And Slim seemed to totally forget A man a plan a canal, Panama. He tried to work in a couple of others, and actually said oh no! Doug finally asked him if he had a plan? And when Doug told him to go for his guns, Slim stuck his hands in the air.

And Doug was trying to say Bear Creek Farms, but it came out Bear Creep Farms first and then Bear Freak Farms. Slim said he had been there and it wasn't that great a place. Something about a nudist colony and a hairless five legged bear. They didn't go my much further than that.

The cutest part of the show was when a fly started buzzing around the guys while they were singing Cool Water. Doug had brought a note onto the stage, so Slim picked it up and started folding it. Then he turned to Doug, who went wide eyed and said "Not me! Don't swat me." Slim put the paper down and the fly flew over and landed on Woody's mike stand. Woody moved around to look at it and behind him, Joey acted like he was going to hit Woody on the back. Then the fly came at Joey, who blew on it. The best part was when it landed on Woody's face, I don't think I can describe that look. Joey was doing the harmony Waters and after the fly showed up, he changed it to swatter!

They did Rawhide and bowling. Then Doug and Slim started talking about Phist Yah and how it improves any song. Doug did when you wish upon a star and it improved it. Then Doug asked why Slim went Phist Yah, and Slim said because the women go nuts. So he said it again and all the Cyberpals and I think some other people all yelled. Then Woody asked what Doug did, He went wide eyes and did a short yodel. There was a pause, but I think every woman in the room screamed. Then Doug asked Woody what he did and Woody said he had been taking antidepressants lately. Then they asked Joey, who played a short polka and went Hoop-Dee-Doo! So after that, everything they said Phist Yah, all they Cyberpals would yell

After the intermission at the second show, they came back minus Woody. So we all asked where's Woody? They looked around in surprise, like they didn't know he wasn't there. So Joey started the song and Woody strolled out onto the stage.

We've all heard Slim comment about lighters during Happy Trails. dj brought tiny light sticks with her, so dj, Amy, Jackie, Linda and I waved those back and forth.

After both shows, Doug said you could find loads of information on them on their web page and gave the address. Then Doug said if you wanted to know more, talk to the Cyberpals, the ones in the weird shirts, and they will talk to you for hours about Riders in the Sky.

When Doug signed my mousepad, here I go bouncing around again, he said I would be the hottest or was it hippest chick on campus. That's when I told him I was going back to school and my major was criminal justice, We talked more after the second show and I promised Woody I would mail them an announcement when I made it though the academy.

Ok, now a couple of notes that Amy, di and Jackie came up with when I read them the review. The first was when they did that's how the yodel was born, during the second show. They were talking about how high it was and Doug said that between shows one of the Cyberpals had come up to him and said Ranger Doug, it's just not logical for men to sing that high. and it went from there. Second, Doug gave out Joey's new cell phone number and judging from the look on Joey's face, it was the real number. :) Poor Joey.

Third, I think it was Jackie who gave a love ewe to Woody during questions. It wound up on Joey's hat and his reply to a question was "Not Baaaaaaaaaad" There was a little girl named Grace who was probably only about four who went up to sing, but was really shy and stood there with her hands over her face during the whole show. So Woody said that she was one of triplets "Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil". After Grace, and just for a note not Doug's daughter, had left the stage, Doug asked Slim a question and Slim put both hands over his eyes.

Catch you all on down the trail

Tiff
