Glendale High School
March 29, 97

The show was held at Glendale High School, which is about 20 minutes
from my in-laws house in Burbank. (I had enough tickets to take my
husband, his mom and her girlfriend.) Glendale Community Concerts
Series was the group which sponsored the show, and they're made up of
people who are probably two or three (or more) generations older that I
am. There was a lot of blue hair reflecting in the lights. The
auditorium did not fill, and I was somewhat chagrined at that - I
somehow felt personally responsible that Glendale was unresponsive to
the jewels condescending to be in their midst. The program itself was
delightful, and we had terrific seats - four rows back and right smack
dab in the middle. I spent two blissful hours not twenty feet from
Ranger Doug! Of course, they had their "campfire" in front of which
basked a stuffed armadillo. They sang a well-rounded selection from the
CD's that I already have, and some from Public Cowbow #1 which I bought
prior to the show. It's now one of my favorites (Cowboys in Love and
The Cowbow Way are two others; Songs of the Sage is still growing on
me). Ranger Doug asked for questions toward the end of the show and,
while I didn't have a question (duh), I requested that Too Slim recite
"Reincarnation", which he did! Too Slim also broke out into "Surfin'
USA" which really tickled my husband - he's a real Beach Boys fan, and
designs the Brian Wilson newsletter, Breakaway. We haven't had so much
fun in forever!
Afterward, I waited around and they signed a picture and my new CD liner
notes, and my husband took a picture of all of us together - super
neat. Woody seemed a bit tired - I suspect that this is all pretty
boring after 3,000+ appearances. But my husband said I was just
beaming, and I don't doubt it. I grinned for an hour before, two hours
during, and who knows how long after! Their music is constantly in my
head.
