What a FANTASTIC day it was for me March 23, 1998.
My Dad took me to see the Riders in the Sky. (my wife's work would not let her off) We left Corpus Christi at about 11:30am. I thought the concert started at 8:00pm. It started at 6:30pm which was alot better. I was sitting in the lobby were they were going to set up all the merchandise. It was about 4:30 or so and I heard some people that sounded like Riders in the Sky people walking up a ramp just below me. It was RANGER DOUG. I asked if I could give him something and he said yes. I told his I was the person that had my kidney removed. Then we talked for about 15 or 20 minutes. I gave him the Guitar pin and told him it was a birthday gift from all the Cyberpals. He said "what a great bunch of cyberpals". He asked if I had any special requests. Can you guess what I said? Your right CIMARRON!! He said they had been working on that one and yes they would play it just for me. Now That's the COWBOY WAY. I also gave him books 4 and 5 of my books. They now have one of each of all the ones I have done. And I also gave Ranger Doug my calling card that Tiffany made for me. Then he had to go. At about 5:30pm. The man that was setting up the tables with tapes and books etc. Asked if I could help him carry in the tables from another room. I had to say no but my Dad was happy to do it and so he helped.
Well now it is finally time for the concert to start. They introduced the Riders in the Sky and they opened with 1. "Texas Plains" then 2. "How the yodel was Born" 3. "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" 4. "Miss Molly" 5. "Palendrome" 6. "Four Legged Friends" 7. "Davy Crockett Headin' for Texas" (song from new tape and CD) 8. "Sioux City Sue" 9. 'Whoop De Do"(Joey sang this one) 10. "Lay Still Little Doggies" 11. "Rawhide" (also to the same tune "Bowlin
Bowlin Bowlin keep that ball a rollin knock those pins all over Rawhide") 12. "Cowboy Camp Meeting" 13. "Ride for the Dawn" 14. "The Arms of My Love" 15. " Always Drink up Stream from the Herd". 16. "Beans and Biskets" (Too Slim) 17. "CIMARRON" Ranger Doug said, "now a song specially requested by one of our Cyberpals, Gary. Then Too Slim spoke up and said, "yes our Cyberpal Gary Lundblad. And they sang CIMARRON. I almost had tears come to my eyes but I managed not to. It was FANTASTIC.
18. "Yukon Star" 19. "Ghost Riders in the Sky" 20. "Texas Sands" (Joey) 21. "Chero-kee" (from new tape and CD) 22. "Rope Tricks" (Woody) 23. "Santa Fe" (Ranger Doug said, "here is another song that was asked for special tonight) ( Yes it was me that ask for them to sing this one also. I like the whole song but I also told Ranger Doug earlier I really liked the Yodeling in this song.) 24. "When Payday Rolls Along". 25. Dancing (chicken, varmit, rabbit,
armadillo) 26. "Happy Trails" Then the encore 27. Loony Tunes 28. "You are my Sunshine" 29. "He Walks With the Wild and Lonely" (Unplugged)
That was the end of the show. My Dad and I went out in the Lobby and waited and waited and waited. Then I took the note that Ranger Doug and Riders in the Sky wrote me which I had printed on some Cowboy paper I had and got Ranger Doug to write something and sign it. Ranger Doug wrote " GREAT TO SEE YOU HERE! #3727 (number of this concert) Then my Dad took a picture of me with Ranger Doug. I got Joey to write on the paper "GREAT TO SEE YOU", and my Dad got a picture of me with Joey. Then Woody wrote " ME TOO GARY!" and Too Slim wrote GOOD JOB GARY! All of them ask me if I was doing ok. Woody Paul told me his wife had had cancer removed a couple years ago and was doing just fine. He said "Hang in there. You'll make it." This was the Best Medicine I have gottin'. I was quite sore after all the sitting and standing it is the most activity I have done in one day since the operation. So My Dad and I stayed at a Motel in San Antonio for the night and came home this morning.
Well that is my report.
