Riders in the Sky
and Lisa And Darrell at Penn State

We're back!!!!!!

We went up yesterday so Darrell got to watch trains going around
Horseshoe Curve in Altoona(Saturday) Then we checked in at the Nittany
Lion Inn. Had a wonderful dinner that evening there and then walked
around the campus to see if we could find any of the advertising
literature for the concert.

This morning turned out to be a typical PA spring day, wet and a little
bit cool but the concerts were indoors so it wasn't a problem. They
actuall performed two concerts; the first at 1PM and the one we saw at
3PM.

We stopped over to the Eisenhower auditorium right after the first show
to check out the sales table (picked up Cowboy ABC shirts for the nieces
and nephew) plus talked to the Riders for a couple of minutes. The
minute Ranger Doug saw the badges hwe just shook his head and started to
chuckle (they're everywhere... they're everywhere!!!!)

Darrell and I introduced ourselves to the Riders and yes folks...
suprise... Joey the Cowpolka King was there. YEAH!!!! He said he has
been remiss about keeping his website up to date because he's been busy
with the new album. I told him that we were pleased to see him there
because he always adds to the group and makes it that much more
enjoyable.

Then it was time for the show. It was a one hour childrens show and boy
did that hour go fast! They performed How Do We Yodel, Red River Valley,
Rawhide, You Are My Sunshine, Happy Trails To You, and couple of others
but not necessarily in that order. They had a bunch of kids come up on
stage and sing with them; at least 20 or 30; and they really did sing
with the Riders. Also a you girl won the 8 track by asking why were they
so silly. Ranger Doug said I could have won when I asked Too Slim did he
have a Nittany Lion Varmint Dance but they had already given the 8track
away (Well, he did say kids should ask the questions....)

After the show We waited very patiently to have them autograph one of
their 20th Anniversary posters which we will frame and put up on the
wall. This was their 3741 performance. He said that they may come back
and put on a full concert in State College in the future. I surely hope
so.

Now for the icing on the cake... We asked the Riders if they would like
to try Penn State's legendary ice cream from the Creamery. They all
replied sure so afterwards we walked over with them to the Creamery and
treated The Riders and Joey to ice cream. Woody Paul had butter pecan,
of course; Too Slim and Joey had ice cream floats; and Ranger Doug had
Palmer Mooseum (a specialty flavor named after the Palmer Musuem of Art
on the campus). I'm hoping they enjoyed themselves (actually I think they
did as Ranger Doug went back for seconds). We walked back to their RV
with them and wished them safe journey back to Nashville (which was a 15
hour drive from State College). I got hugs from all the guys and Darrell
got handshakes from them for the treats. Plus they hoped that they would
see us in Hershey in June which is the next time they're scheduled to
visit Pennsylvania. We're going to try our darndest to see them then.

Only one picture though as cameras weren't allowed in the auditorium.
Darrell took one of me and Ranger Doug holding our autographed poster.
We still have few more shots left on the roll so it may be a while to I
can get it to you so everyone can see.

After they pulled out of the parking lot on their way back, we loaded up
on more ice cream for our relatives and proceeded to sing ourselves
silly with the Riders tapes in the car until we reached back home safe
and sound so I could type this report to you.
