Tiffany's first two show's

Moscow Idaho July 12, 1996 (it is an old one. First concert I went to. Local music fair)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(I'm just going to do the summary I have written down that was in my journal)

The concert was a blast! They are such a funny group. I was there and heard them do their warm-up and sound check. They sang a bit of Miss Molly. Then Ranger Dough asked if we could hear them and we all started clapping. He said, " Thanks all, see you next year."

Too Slim asked if we were happy. We all started clapping again and he said, "I'm glad. In the last town we played, they were downright surly."

They did a show for the kids and it got funny when Ranger Doug and Too Slim got into a bit of a mix-up. Ranger Doug asked Slim to work up a solo on his bass. Slim thought Ranger Doug had asked for a solo on his face! Ranger said no one would say anything like that. Slim tried to teach the kids and Ranger taught (or tried to) us to yodel.

My favorite part (save when they sang That's how the yodel was born) was when Slim started going "phist yah!" He said for all the men to say that before they kissed their wives good night. Ranger Doug said he could see the birth rate in Moscow going through the floor. Slim protested and said that some women are very responsive to that, then he asked Ranger what he does. Doug glared at Slim, but did a short yodel. Slim laughed and said no women would respond to that. Doug said that one did, and Slim said one was all it took. Then, they both turned to Woody Paul and asked what he did. Woody looked over and said "What?" Doug and Slim turned back to the audience and Doug said he thought as much. I don't think Woody was impressed.

Sidemeat showed up. He told us about his biscuits (the Biscuit Blues) and helped teach the Cowboy ABCs

In case you can't tell, this is before I became a loyal RITSaholic and didn't know what to review. The next is better.

(Again, just the summary from my journal)

September 22, 1996 (my second concert and my parents first)

The Riders arrived late for the concert. Their plane landed at 1:55 pm and they were on stage at 2:30 pm. The concert was supposed to start at two. Slim was dressing on stage to get there on time, just his chaps.

Slim and Doug had their lovely mix-up. They sang Miss Molly and Doug said, "Slap your bass Slim". Well, Slim started playing his face! Doug said, " I said Slap your BASS Slim!" Slim kept playing and said he thought Doug said Bass.

They sang That's how the Yodel was born and most of the men in the audience turned pale. Slim also said "If this was a logical world, men would ride side saddle." That's a good point. (that comes from someone who rides)
When they did Rawhide, Doug beat Slim to the "phist yah!" Slim's bass had come unplugged and he was busy trying to get it plugged in, so Doug did the "phist yah!" And the look on his face was worth a million words.

This is were Slim said for all the men to go "phist yah!" before they kissed their wives good night. Doug said he could see the birth rate in Idaho go through the ground. Slim said it would rise because most women will respond to that. Doug asked if Slim had had a lot of luck with that and Slim said yes he had and what does Doug do? Doug took a step towards Woody, his eyes got wide, and he glared at Slim. Then he went up to the mike and did a short yodel. Slim started laughing and said NO one would respond to that. Then they both looked over at Woody and Woody said that HE did. Doug's eyes got really wide and he and Slim moved to the other side of the stage.

Woody showed, or tried to, us some rope tricks. Doug was trying to provide background music by playing the guitar and yodeling. By the time Woody was ready to go, Doug was laughing so hard, he couldn't yodel if his life depended on it. Woody managed to get completely tied up before he was able to do anything. Slim and Doug were making jokes the whole time and Woody finally got so fed up, he snapped at Slim. But, he finally go

I finally got to see Slim dance. He did the Rabbit, 3-toed sloth, and the armadillo. The last one is my favorite. Woody did the turkey, chicken, and deep fat fried chicken (during the Farr away stomp) while playing his fiddle.

At some point in the show Doug told a joke (that was pretty funny) D: Hey Slim, Bob Dole, boxers or briefs? S: Depends

My father and I started laughing. We were the only ones who did. Doug noticed and commented that Slim had some support in the front row. The other memorable line was when Doug said: In the border country where I was born, that's the border between Illinois and Michigan, they say Spanish is the only language to sing a romantic song.

Slim glanced over at Doug, who got wide eyed, started laughing and said "Well, that's what they say". Then, they sang my favorite song, La Malaguena
