Show #3823, Whftt, yha! (OK, so you try and spell it.)
Happy Birthday to me.
The day itself wasn't so great, but the show was
WONDERFUL. I picked up Tweety from school and we raced, as best we could
in traffic, for Puyallup. By the time we parked and grabbed Tweety a bite
to eat, almost all the seats were taken, so we ended up in the beer and
B.O. smelling section of the bleachers. The people were very nice, and I'm
sure on that hot day we didn't smell like prairie flowers ourselves. I
counted about 250 people in the two sets of bleachers, 120 seated in chairs
on the floor, and over 100 standing in the back. They had an excellent crowd.
We watched their sound check. Ranger Doug looked lovely, posed with his
hand on his hip watching Too Slim's sound check with a quizzical look on
his face. Woody's mike kept flopping down limply and Too Slim piped up
with, "You have the same problem, huh?" to Woody. They then referred to
Ranger Doug as the Velveeta Fog and the show started with Back on the Texas
Plains. (I may not get these titles right, but it's what I would've named
them if it was me.) The song was followed by the Ranger and Too Slim doing
High Fives.
How the Yodel Was Born.
Wahoo
Tumbling Tumbleweeds
Palindrome
Barnyard (4 foot?) Stomp (followed by RD and TS backbending into each other
as the music ended)
Della Rosa? A song all in Spanish which was very pretty.
Souix City Sue (with "Heck no I don't" instead of "Indeed I do)
Lie Still Little Doggies (from RD's album)
Rawhide
Bowlin'
Cowboy Camp Meetin'
Then Sourdough Slim, another cowboy talent who sings, yodels, plays the
guitar and accordian got up and did "Dry and Dusty" with them.
Then it was question time.
#1. Q: Boxers or briefs? A: Depends
#2. Q: Too Slim, does your degree in wildlife management
help you on the road with Woody and Ranger Doug?
(mine). A: Well, it might help them. Then Woody
spoke up with: "He doesn't pick up our droppings.
I'll guarantee you that!"
#3. Q: Does anybody pay to see you? (little kid). Won
the tape.
Then they sang One More Ride, and that was that for then.
We delivered Tiffany's stuff and mingled a bit. Tweety got hugs from all
the guys :) They all looked SO GOOD!
High energy, cheery, great bodies. (Hey now, even cowgirls can notice.)
Told Ranger Doug that Nancy sent a hug. Told Too Slim we represented the
Cyber-saddlepals and we all said "Howdy". He sent a great big western
"Howdy" right back, and said he heard the group was really growing. He
asked when we did our chatroom thing, and I told him it was the 2nd & 4th
Tuesdays, but I thought we might hit it every Tuesday now. Told him I
wasn't sure because I wasn't home that night. Had each fella sign our
pictures we bought, but (sniff) I didn't have the nerve to ask for hug.
(Hangs head in shame.) After waiting for so long and looking forward to it
so much, I turned out to by shy. Boy, that was sure news to me! I didn't
even do my "challenge" to Woody. It just went right out of my head.
We went and grabbed front row seats to save for the next show, and I
couldn't find my camera. So I had this nice lady save them for us while we
went back to the car (seemed like we had to park 50 miles away) to check
for it there. We came back and the lady was actually reaching across
holding on to them for us. I guess it was a struggle to keep them. I told
her I'd take her picture with the Riders if she wanted, and mail it to her
since she was so kind. She was tickled pink. Unfortunately the lady she
came with only let her get one quicky with Ranger Doug. Sure hope it turns
out.
Hope they all turn out. Tweety took the ones on stage.
She was just so excited I thought I'd let her run hog-wild with "being in
charge".
SECOND SHOW
Was entirely different in content, but not energy level.
Back in the Saddle Again
How Does He Yodel
Ghost Riders in the Sky
Cherokee
Autumn on the Trail
A poem by the lovely and talented Too Slim
Yellow Rose of Texas
Always Drink Upstream from the Herd
Amber Eyes
Then Woody Paul Cyrus put in an appearance. He, in his own words, "wiggled
it around a little" as he sang "You're Wearin' Out Your Welcome, Matt".
Cattle Call
Saltin' of the Slug
Blue Montana Skies
Blue Bonnet Lady
Turkey in the Straw & Chicken Reel, with Woody dancing.
Then Too Slim treated us to the Rabbit Dance, Three-toes Sloth Dance and
Armadillo Dance.
Roy Rogers Tribute: Pecos Bill, Blue Shadows on the Trail, Lights of Old
Santa Fe, Don't Fence Me In, Navaho Trail, Skyball Paint and Happy Trails.
Didn't think life could get any better, but when I took Tweety's picture
with Too Slim, I mentioned this was my birthday present to myself and he
immediately sang Happy Birthday to me, and even remembered which one I was!
I told Woody I was worried they put so much of themselves into the show, so
many times a year that they might burn out. He laughed and said "NO WAY!"
Anyway, maybe next year I'll be a little more agressive.
I had a great time and Tweety was flying! Those boys are just the Best! If
they were a resort, they'd get more than the usual 5 stars!
Wish you all could have been there. Well, actually, you were in spirit.
Safe Trails. Stormy.
